It has been a busy couple of weeks since the last update from me on what the Elite team has been up to, as well as an update on what's happening with the Aliso Viejo Grand Prix.
The team has been racing it's brains out. More than last year it seems like there is a lot more competition at the "local" races. With so many good pros based in Southern California and the NRC calendar spread out a little bit more, these pro squads/riders are sending a lot more racers to the local races to keep in shape for their big races. Still, the elite team has been racing hard, and getting results. There has been a flurry of CBR races and Tommy was the B.A.R Series leader (Best All-around Racer) at the start of these events, and the team has ridden well to protect and lenghten his lead. The Memorial day crit in Long Beach was a long fast race. We started the 100K race with almost a full squad and things got faster and faster as we went on. A large break got up the road and after covering and chasing so many breaks early we were unable to bring this move back. Still I set up Tommy for the sprint and after getting blocked by a Jittery Joes racer, Tommy got around him and in for
11th.
On to Dana Point GP. Again a stacked field showed up for what was another super fast race. There was a full Rock Racing crew, 5 Star team, as well as a few other pros like Chepe Garcia from Toyota-United. It was a super fast race from the start and with about 7 laps to go a small group, with the above mentioned teams and people, got off the front and drilled it to the end. Myself, Cameron, and Tommy did some HUGE pulls to bring the move back, and we had it very close. No other teams were able to chase from the intense pace being set and the six up the road fought it out for the win. Tommy had Kirk with him at the end and out of the last corner Tommy had a good jump and took out the field sprint for 7th place. A great result against a stacked field.
We are off to the CBR State Crit Champs this weekend in Chula Vista, another B.A.R Series event and we will be gunning for the Jersey.
The Aliso Viejo Grand Prix is on track to be a great event. We need your help though. We need you to volunteer. It does count toward your volunteer for race reimbursement, so please come out and help us with this great event. We still need lots of volunteers so please email right away and let me know if you can be there.
See you on the road,
